Oaktree at sunset

Launching BlackOak Advisors

The financial services industry takes advantage of our lack of expertise and psychological biases. For the most part, it follows an out-of-date investment approach, chases fads and hot sectors, is often opaque about how it makes money, and delivers mediocre results over the long run.

We deserve better. I’m launching the type of firm I’d want to work with: BlackOak Advisors LLC

BlackOak is a fiduciary and fee-only boutique investment advisor. We’ll be taking on no more than 10 clients in 2021. If you’d like to join the waiting list, please send me a direct message with your email.

What do I do for clients? A great advisor is part psychologist, part coach, and part investment manager. A great advisor listens carefully and tells you what you need to hear even (or especially) when it isn’t comfortable. I serve a limited number of clients and provide high-touch wealth management and financial coaching. I’ll also help you identify and coordinate with other specialists, as appropriate.

Why am I doing this? I’ve had an interest in personal finance, behavioral psychology, and investing for many years. Growing up, I watched my mom struggle financially with three young kids. That and other life experiences gave me the push to educate myself. Along the way, I realized I had a real passion for helping others understand and navigate “the system.” There are too few advisors who are deeply knowledgeable, follow an evidence-based approach, and always put their clients’ interests first.

How am I different? I have deep investment expertise with 10+ years as a private equity investor and family office co-founder. I believe in a simple and academically grounded invested approach. Life is complicated but investing doesn’t have to be. For more about my journey as an investor, see here.

Who do I serve? My typical clients are in their 30’s and 40’s, have high incomes, and significant investable assets. Crucially, they share my investment philosophy, which I wrote about here. I also work with family offices who are looking for unbiased and informed advice on their investment programs.

I believe the key elements of any partnership are honest communication and trust. If you work with me, you’ll get someone who’s knowledgeable, always puts your interests first, and is a straight shooter.
